Bulls drop Game 1 of divisional semi-final playoff series

The Lethbridge Bulls dropped Game 1 of their West Division semi-final playoff series 7-4 to the Okotoks Dawgs during Western Canadian Baseball League playoff action on Wednesday night at Seaman Stadium.

“Had a good start from Javvy (pitcher De Alejandro,” said Ryan MacDonald, Bulls head coach.

“(We ) just (had) two bad pitches throughout the game and (it) cost us four runs,”

the difference of the game.”

Lethbridge opened the scoring in the top of the second inning.

Carlin Dick hit a solo home run to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead, before Kyle Yip came up three batters later and hit a single to score Adonis Bernal from second to  give Lethbridge a 2-0 lead.

The Dawgs replied in the bottom of the second when Brendan Luther, with one out, hit a single to score Connor Crowson from second base to make the score 2-1.

Jarrett Burney then came up later in the inning with two outs and hit a double to score Luther and Ricardo Sanchez to give Okotoks a 3-2 lead.

It was two inning later that Yip hit his second straight single to score Bernal to tie the game 3-3.

Okotoks pulled ahead with three runs in their half of the fifth inning as Nash Crowell hit a one-out three-run home run to give the Dawgs a 6-3 lead.

Tyler Monroe got the Bulls back to within two runs when he hit a double to score Josh Kabayama in the seventh inning.

Tucker Zdunich extended the Dawgs lead to 7-4 with a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Javier De Alejandro took the loss for the Bulls on the mound after pitching 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out four batters.

Yip was the only notable productive player at the plate by going 3-or-4 with two RBIs.

The Bulls will look to prolong their season tonight in Game 2  of the best-of-three series at Spitz Stadium with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
