Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association is starting a new season with many positives even before the puck drops.
“We’re ahead of schedule,” said Keith Hitchcock, LMHA general manager.
“We had a good start to the registrations and we’ve been able to do our ID camps in April at the triple A level and we were able to organize that through filtering into late August (and the) start of September.”
LMHA has moved into some house league team such at the U9 level beginning try outs this weekend.
“That’s two, two-and-a-half weeks ahead of schedule,” said Hitchcock.
“It’s been well organized.”
LMHA’s AAA teams are in exhibition season, while the AA’s are just finishing their releases.
Numbers are looking good this year for LMHA.
“We’re very pleased with our numbers to the point of where we’re struggling to make sure that we’ve got enough ice for everybody in Lethbridge Minor,” said Hitchcock.
Hitchcock anticipates that LMHA will be over 1,000 mark for registered players.
LMHA’s numbers are either steady or up at the U7, U9 U15 and U18 levels, while there is the possibility of an additional U11 team be created.
“Our older kids are hanging around and wanting to play hockey deep into their career,” said Hitchcock.
LMHA has landed great coaches, who could develop up into the feeder system to the AA and AAA levels.
“That’s what (we are) trying to develop, is just a whole consistency right up the ladder,” said Hitchcock.
LMHA has 15 tournaments booked throughout the season.
