Horn men’s soccer have strong west coast trip

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s soccer team had a strong showing out on the west coast over the weekend.

The Horn men’s team made their chances count on a low shot total at the University of Fraser Valley on Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 victory.

The Cascades opened the scoring within the second minute of the game before the Horns Jeremy Dalla Costa scored in the 40th minute and Simon Rolfson scored in the 74th minute to preserve the win for U of L.

U of L had 13 (five on goal) shots to the Cascades six (four on goal).

The Horn men began the weekend with a one mill draw with the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver on Friday night.

The Thunderbirds opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Rolfson found the back of the  net in the 20th  minute to secure the draw.

Shots on goal were 9-3 in favour of UBC, while the overall shots were 24-6 for the Thunderbirds.

U of L men’s soccer now sit with a record of 2-2-3 and host University of Victoria on Saturday and UBCO on Sunday with both games starting at noon.

After winning two in a row to start the season, the Horn women’s soccer team drop two in a row this past weekend by a combined score of 10-2.

The women’s team ended the weekend with a 6-1 at MacEwan University on Sunday.

MacEwan got out to a 3-0 lead in the first half before the Horns’ Chiara Duenser scored U of L’s lone goal in the 65th minute.

MacEwan tacked on three more in the late stages of the game.

MacEwan had 30 shots (19 on goal) to the Horns seven (seven on goal).

The Horn women’s began the weekend with a 4-1 loss to the University of Alberta Pandas.

Duenser got the lone goal for the Pronghorns in the 65th minute.

The Pandas kicked 33 shots, 16 of which hit the net, at the Horns goal.

U of L had three shots with two hitting the net.

Women’s soccer host University of Saskatchewan on Saturday and University of Regina on Sunday with both games at 2:15 p.m.

As for the women’s rugby team, the team was thumped 54-5 last Thursday by University of Victoria  before being dropped 46-14 by UBC on Sunday.

Their record sits at 1-2 on the season.
