The Lethbridge Hurricanes are pleased  with their start to this Western Hockey League campaign after  finding themselves atop the Central Division just over a month into the season.

The team sits atop the Central Division with a 7-3-1 record so far.

“Yeah, (I’m) really proud of our group’s start,” said Ryan Aasman, Hurricanes assistant coach.

“I think it started right from …  day one of training camp and the standard that was set (in) the opening meeting and throughout our process … I liked our approach to things.  I think we did a good job of taking advantage of a good schedule for us early on. That was all a part of the plan and I think that’s been encouraging to stick to the plan.”

Aasman sees the team of doing a good job with rest and practice time, having energy  and getting on top of teams early.

“I’ve like our attention to detail early,” said Aasman.

“We’ve been (a) very competitive group in practices and in games, and those habits have come through and helped us through adversity moments in games and we found ways to come from behind as well.”

The Hurricanes first 11 games have been all on weekends and have had a lot of practice time during the week to jell together.

“I think you’re able to touch on a lot of stuff, said Aasman.

“But then you’re also  able to  work in some cardio aspects of it, you’re able to get your pace up in practice. When you’re playing Friday and Saturday, your Mondays (and) your Tuesdays can have a lot of tempo and have some compete elements to it while you’re teaching and then as the week goes on, you tailor off a bit and I think that’s really helped us play faster.”

Captain Noah Chadwick is happy with the start.

“I think we just have that belief in our locker room, and I think we know (we) have a pretty strong team and we’re just having the buy-in from everyone right now,” said Chadwick.

Forward Brayden Edwards thinks  the team has been feeling good with the extra practice time.

“I think we’ve shown that in our little stretch here, obviously we had one game that we weren’t too happy with, but for the most part we’ve been pretty sharp, really dialled in (and) had some really good starts,” said Edwards.
