Cameron Norrie scored the game-winner with 7:46 to go in the game to lift the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 7-6 win over Medicine Hat Tigers in the first meeting of the season between the Highway 3 rivals on Wednesday night at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

“I (was) just saying I don’t remember the last time we’ve won a game like that where we’ve found a way to score on command and had the fire power to do it,” said Ryan Aasman, Hurricanes assistant coach to Dustin Forbes of 106.7 Rock.

“I thought in the third period we just did a good job (of) kind of just bearing down. And right before Norrie scored, you could hear the bench talking about there was about three line changes there where we just kept putting pucks (in) better places and putting pucks behind them and then bang, (the) puck (went) towards the net off a funny bounce and it’s in but it took time to wear them down.”

The game began with Jonas Woo’s seeing-eye shot finding its way into the net to open the  scoring on the powerplay and give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead at the 4:34 mark of the first period from Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll and Kadon McCann.

Logan McCutcheon tied the game 2:22 later when his shot bounced off Harrison Meneghin’s blocker and in from Shane Smith and Kooper Gizowski.
