Local teams have booked a spot in the quarterfinals after the first day of action at the 4A provincial high school volleyball championships, which are being hosted by LCI, on Thursday.
The LCI varsity boys had a perfect 3-0 record in round robin play.
The Rams opened the provincial championship with a three-set win over Jasper Place.
They won the second set 25-11 and third set 15-12 after dropping the opening set 25-21.
LCI then swept Strathcona (29-27, 27-25) and Charles Spencer (25-19, 25-19) in two games to end round robin play.
The Rams will play their quarter-final match tonight at 6 p.m. at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
As for LCI’s varsity girls, they opened up with a three-set win over Salisbury Comp after taking the last two sets 25-23 and 15-10 respectively and dropping the first set 25-22.
After winning the opening set 25-16, LCI then lost the last two sets to Lindsay Thurber by scores of 25-15 and 15-12.
The girls then concluded their round robin with a three-set victory over William Aberhart to finish with a record of 2-1 and will host a quarterfinal today at 4 p.m.
The Catholic Central Cougars boys team opened up with a three-set loss(25-21, 21-25, 9-15) to Lindsay Thurber, followed by a three set win over Western Canada (25-22, 24-26, 15-13) and winding up round robin play by being swept (25-19, 25-13) by William Aberhart.
CCH is in another quarter-final at 6 p.m. tonight at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
Opponents are yet to be determined for those matches.
