The Lethbridge Hurricanes head into a busy schedule this week as they will play four games in five nights before the Christmas break beginning tonight against the Saskatoon Blades at home.

“Guys were real good this week in preparation,” said Bill Peters, Canes head coach.

“Things change a little bit with guys departing for world junior (at) different times.”

With Brayden Yager, Wojtech Port and Leo Braillard off to their respective World Junior Selection Camps this week,  it will allow for an affiliated player to play on the blueline in Port’s absence and opportunities for other forwards up front.

“Guys get (an) opportunity on the powerplay that they normally wouldn’t get if we had a full roster,” said Peters.

To Peters, it’s comforting to know all the opponents they play this week are familiar ones.

“We can use head-to-head video which is good,” said Peters.

“We know the tendencies of all three teams and they’re all built a little bit differently but all stiff challenges.”

Peters thinks their process is good heading into this stretch of games.

“Now let’s make sure we dial in and play to our identity,” said Peters.

The Hurricanes face the tough opponents in the Blades tonight, Red Deer on Friday and end with a home-and-home with Medicine Hat on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

“ It’s good to have this last final stretch be a tough one,” said defenceman Will Sharpe.

“I think it’s good for us as a team. (We are) losing a few guys for world juniors but there’s guys that are going to step up when the time is right. So I think it’s a good opportunity for lots of players here.”

Sharpe was asked about how the team is zoning in these next four games despite layers having the holiday break on their minds.

“You just try not to think about it too much,” said Sharpe.

“You just think of it as regular games, regular days (and) not where you’re at on the calendar. I think it’s more of just finishing strong, so we can keep that momentum going into when we come back.”

The Hurricanes play all but Saturday’s game at home.
