The Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Saskatoon Blades 2-1 on Wednesday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
“I thought we had the puck lots,” said Bill Peters, Canes head coach.
“We didn’t finish as well as we would (have) liked but I thought we generated a lot of good looks throughout the line-up.”
The Canes had 38 shots on net and Peters was asked about if their lack of finishwas a concern.
“It’s not a concern,” said Peters.
“It’s just something that we (have) got to continue to grind at, and work away and get our skills guy out there and improve in those situations.”
Chase Petersen felt with the Canes being fresh that they were able to capitalize on that and were able to play a fast, hard game against a Blades team that played the night before.
After a scoreless first, Miguel Marques hustled in on a dump-in and took the puck off the end wall and deposited it into the net while shorthanded at 4:36 of the middle frame.
Logan Wormald and Carsen Adair assisted on Marques’ 11th of the year.
Petersen scored his first of the year and in the WHL with 3:02 to go in the second to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
“I saw it went and I pretty well blacked out,” said Petersern.
“I think getting that first one is special to me.”
Logan McCutcheon and Gavin Lesiuk assisted on the goal.
The Blades cut the Canes lead to 2-1 when Ben Saunderson scored his third of the year at the 17:36 mark of the second from Brandon Lisowsky and Tyler Parr.
Jackson Unger faced only 18 shots in the Canes crease while Lethbridge peppered Ethan McCallum with 38 shots on the night.
