The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns ringette showed their generosity for a local charity on Tuesday.

The Horns donated 200 socks to the Streets Alive Mission with another 150 pairs still to arrive for the organization.

The idea of donating stemmed from the Horns hosting the upcoming  national championship and the athletes receiving something when they arrive.

“So all the athletes will get one pair of socks and then Sock Rocket donates three pairs of socks to any charity of our choice,” said Sue Stevenson, Horns head coach.

Stevenson explained the importance of the donation.

“You see people out and about and how cold it is and it’s important to make sure that everybody has some decent clothing during this time of year,” said Stevenson.

Horns player, Keely Poole, spoke about what kind of message she wanted to relay to her to teammates in giving back.

“Whether it’s donating items like socks or its donating time, it means a lot to people and just to show that you care, truly does mean a lot to these people,” said Poole.

“It’s also really wonderful to see organizations, especially those with younger people, stepping up, and coming in and bringing in the donations that are needed  by those people on the street and a clean pair of socks goes a long way for somebody,” said Cameron Kissick, Streets Alive Mission chief operations officer,

Socks will be distributed through their foot care and clothing program.

The Horns  will also donate  350 pairs of socks to  My  City Care ,which is anticipated to happen in the New Year.
