Hurricanes sweep road trip

Jordan Gustafson scored a hat trick to propel the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 4-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs and a sweep of their five-game road trip on Saturday night.

It was the Chiefs that got out to the early lead when Berkly Catton one-timed in his 20th goal of the season off a nice passing play with Andrew Cristall and Shea Van Olm 2:57 into the first period.

Gustafson tied the game at one with a shorthanded breakaway goal 4:48 into the first from Kash Andresen.

Van Olm’s quick shot ,while skating to the net, off a pass from Cristall beat Jackson Unger to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead with under two minutes to go in the first period.

Catton also assisted on Van Olm’s 33rd goal of the season.

Gustafson replied for the Canes to the tie the game at two at the 9:05 mark of the second period from Anthony Wilson and Caden Price.

Logan McCutcheon capitalized on a cross-ice pass during a four-on-one rush to give the Canes a 3-2 lead at 8:17 mark of the third period.

Brayden Edwards and Logan Wormald notched the assist on McCutcheon’s seventh goal of the year.

Gustafson wrapped up the win with an empty netter with 53 seconds to go in the game from Brayden Yager and Tristen Doyle.

The Chiefs outshot the Canes 30-28 in the game.

Lethbridge went 0-for-1 while Spokane went 0-for-2 on the powerplay.

Lethbridge defeated Moose Jaw 3-2 , Swift Current 2-1 in overtime, Tri-City 3-2 and Wenatchee  4-2 before defeating the Chiefs on the road trip.

The Canes (26-14-1-1) begin a three-game homestand this week when they host the Regina Pats on Wednesday night.
