The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns basketball teams made the trip to Edmonton well worth it as both teams swept the MacEwan University Griffins over the weekend.
The Horn women’s team began their weekend with a 65-56 win on Friday.
Kamryn DeKlerk and Courtney McKee each had 12 points, while Kyra Collier had 11 points and Tobore Okome scored 10 points to round out the top point producers on offence.
U of L shot 35.7 per cent from the field, 47.1 per cent in free throws and 56.7 in free throws and had 11 bench points.
The women then got a convincing 70-44 win on Saturday.
McKee led the way with 20 points followed by DeKlerk with 15 points in the win.
They shot 37. 5 per cent in field goals, 30.8 per cent in three point attempts and 56 per cent at the free throw line and had 13 bench points.
“I think we showed improvement from game to game,” said Dave Waknuk, Horns head coach.
“I thought we executed more on offence on Saturday but I thought we guarded well both days.”
Waknuk thought their pace was found on the offensive side of the ball.
“Playing with pace and trying to patient is a challenge, but I think our decision making (is) getting better and I was happy with the choices we were making,” said Waknuk.
The Horn men’s team opened their weekend with a 90-85 win on Friday.
Angelo Mbituyimana had 23 points and Jack-Henry Fox-Grey scored 22 points in the win.
The Horns had a 50 per cent field goal percentage, a three-point percentage of 39 per cent, an 81.3 per cent free throw percentage and 24 bench points.
U of L followed that effort with a 91-84 win on Saturday.
Lu Dalil had 21 points and Mbituyimana had 18 points to lead the way in the win.
The Horns shot 45.6 per cent in field goal attempts, 36.7 per cent in three-point opportunities, 85 per cent in free throw attempts, had 50 points from the bench
U of L improved to 9-3 on the season with those wins.
Both U of L teams play at the University of Saskatchewan this weekend.
