Leo Braillard scored a hat trick to help the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 4-1 win over Red Deer Rebels on Friday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

“Yeah it’s really nice,” said Braillard, on the hat trick.

“Wormy give me two good (passes) and yeah it’s very nice to score (a) hat trick at home.”

The Hurricanes scored three powerplay goals in the first period to get out to a 3-0 lead on the Rebels.

“That’s a good opportunity to try to put the game away really early and try and take the energy out of them,” said Canes captain Noah Chadwick.

Braillard whacked in his 17th of the season in a net-front scramble from Brayden Edwards and Brayden Yager for the team’s first powerplay goal at 8:41 of the first period.

Braillard tapped his second of the period at the side of the net on the powerplay from Yager and Logan Wormald 14 seconds later to give Lethbridge a 2-0 lead.

Wormald then redirected the puck passed Rebels goalie Peyton Shore for his 27th of the season from Edwards and Noah Chadwick.

Talon Brigley got the Rebels on the board 2:03 into the second period when he tipped in a Jace Weir point shot.

Braillard finished off a 2-on-1 with Wormald to get his hat trick goal 5:12 into the third period.

Chadwick also notched an assist.

The Hurricanes went 3-for-7 while the Rebels went 0-for-3 on the powerplay.

Lethbridge outshot the Rebels 35 -26 in the game.

The win was the Canes ninth in a row and for the Rebels, the loss was their 13th in a row.

“We’re really happy with the way things are going right now,” said Chadwick, on the streak

“Everyone’s buying in, everyone’s committed to what we’re doing here, so I think that kind of reflects the results right now.”

The Canes (28-14-1-1) continue their three-in-three stretch when they host the Calgary Hitmen (26-12-3-2) tonight and then finish off in Edmonton on Sunday.
