The Saskatoon Blades hung on to beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-3 on Wednesday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

Captain Noah Chadwick had an  and his first career fight early in the game and Canes associate head coach Matt Anholt was asked about how Chadwick tried to steer the ship.

“As a leader you want to try and showcase energy in any way shape or form,” said Anholt to Dustin Forbes of 106.7 Rock.

“I thought he did well by giving us a little bit jump. I wished it woulda mattered a little more.”

Hunter Laing kick started the Blades offence in the first period with two goals.

Laing opened the scoring 2:24 into the game when he snapped it passed Canes goalie Jackson Unger for his 17th of the season.

Laing then stretched out Unger before tucking the puck in at the 5:20 mark of the first period from Jordan Martin for his 18th goal of the season.

Shane Smith cut the Blades lead in half with his 10th goal of the year from Kash Andresen and Noah Chadwick 13:19 into the second period.

Kazden Mathies jammed the puck in at the 14:27 mark of the second period on the powerplay from Ben Saunderson and Cooper Williams to give Saskatoon a 3-1 lead going into the third period.

Hayden Harsanyi stuck with a rebound at the side of the net and flicked the puck in for his 10th of the season from Saunderson and Rowan Calvert.

Brayden Edwards found the back of the net on the powerplay from Brayden Yager and Kooper Gizowski 13:40 into the third period to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Gizowski brought the Canes to within a goal with 1:48 to go in the game.

Yager and Edwards notched the assists

Saskatoon capitalized once on five powerplays while the Canes went 1-for-3.

The Canes host the Kamloops Blazers on Friday night.

“I think the message to our group (is) just to quit feeling sorry for ourself,” said Anholt.

I don’t know why we feel so sorry for ourself just because we’re missing players … Teams across the league are missing a lot of guys and we’re one of those teams that’s  missing  lot of guys. But wqhat are you going to do about it, like you gotta still win games, these points matter and there’s teams that are  catching us right now while we’re wasting time.”
