Calgary bull rider Nick Tetz rolls into Lethbridge this weekend  looking to defend his title at  the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown.

“Anytime you get to go to a place that you’ve had previous success (in), it always gives you a little bit more added confidence,” said Tetz.

“So super excited to kinda get things going here in Lethbridge and the fact that the weather’s just nice and warm just adds to it.”

Tetz sees repeating as difficult.

“You feel almost a little bit of added pressure,” said Tetz.

“But it kinda gives you a little bit of confidence knowing that place reminds of you winning, and  so it’s easy to feel comfortable and feel confident in.”

Preparation has not changed for Tetz coming in this year as defending champion.

“I’ve just been trying to get on as many bulls as I can and stay busy doing that in the practice pens and stay doing my drills and doing what got me to the dance,” said Tetz.

Tetz talked about Lethbridge’s atmosphere.

“It’s always great in Lethbridge,” said Tetz.

“You almost never really hear the whistle. It’s always you just kinda wait for the bullfighters to step in because the crowd’s so loud that you can’t hear. So it definitely fires me up.”

Tetz said the timing of Lethbridge is always really good because it’s right when everything’s starting to warm up.

“So bulls are kind of losing  their winter weight and it’s kinda when they start really coming into their own and really being able to buck to the best of their ability,” said Tetz.

“The bulls are always great in Lethbridge and there’s not too many bad ones that get put in the draw.”

Tetz has noticed the maturity level grow in riders over the years.

“We got some young kids that are coming up,” said Tetz.

“A lot of the guys that have been going for a couple years now are starting to get it figured out, and learning how to go, and where to go, and how to enter, and managing your body and managing your season.”

Tetz sits 14th in the PBR Canada national standings coming into this weekend.

The PBR South Country Co-op Showdown is tonight and tomorrow night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
