The Lethbridge Hurricanes earned their 40th win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
“I think especially the first 40, (I) thought we were excellent,” said Matt Anholt, Canes associate head coach, to Dustin Forbes of 106.7 Rock.
“You know five-on-five we felt like we were all over them. Obviously their goalie is elite for a reason, he kept them in it I think. (And) chances, I don’t know what they were at, but I felt we were significantly higher than them.”
Anholt felt the Canes let up a bit in the third period.
“I think we could have made them pay a little more but overall a really good game,” said Anholt.
Brayden Edwards walked into the slot and ripped a wrist shot passed Wheat Kings goalie Carson Bjarnason 7:15 into the game from Logan Wormald.
Brandon tied the game when Caleb Hadland scored a shorthanded goal 12:34 into the first period.
Caden Price whacked in his ninth of the season from Wormald and Luke Cozens at 14:02 of the first period.
Wormald got a lucky bounce for his 29th goal of the year 15:11 into the first period from Brayden Yager and Leo Braillard to make the score 3-1 for the Canes.
Lethbridge outshot Brandon 34-25 in the game and went 1-for-2 on the powerplay.
The Canes (40-19-2-2) host the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday night.
