The Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Prince Albert Raiders 5-3 on Wednesday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
“I thought our third was really good,” said Ryan Aasman, Canes assistant coach.
“We had some really good looks throughout the game but in the third specifically we won a lot of wall battles. And our neutral zone forecheck and how we changed on the ice caused turnovers that led to us transitioning and a getting a little bit more O-zone time.”
Kooper Gizowski thought the team stuck with it.
“With most guys back in the line-up I think we just kinda stuck with it and played to our ability and got the two points,” said Gizowski
The Raiders opened the scoring 12:31 into the first period when Riley Boychuk beat Jackson Unger five hole for his 13th goal of the season from Ty Meunier and Rilen Kovacevic.
Brayden Dube gave Prince Albert 2-0 lead when he cut in and deked to the backhand to score his 28th of the season from Aiden Oiring and Daxon Rudolph 17:43 into the opening frame.
Leo Braillard scored his 25th goal of the year with a 1:50 to go in the first period to cut Prince Albert’s lead to 2-1.
Miguel Marques and Carsen Adair assisted on Braillard’s goal.
Logan Wormald bounced his 30th of the season in from Brayden Edwards and Brayden Yager on the powerplay to tie the game 2:48 into the second period.
Oiring then tapped the puck into an empty net to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead 6:45 into the second period from Lukas Dragicevic and Tomas Mrsic.
Gisowski tied the game with his 14th goal of the season 10:51 into the second.
Edwards and Logan McCutcheon assisted on Gizowski’s goal.
Gizowski scored his second of the night with 31 seconds to go before Logan McCutcheon sealed the win with an empty netter with 15 seconds to go.
