The Lethbridge Hurricanes got their 42nd win of the season after a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

“Excellent start and just overall lots of really good things in the first period,” said Matt Anholt, Canes associate head coach,  to Dustin Forbes of 106.7 Rock.

“I think (on) our powerplay we didn’t score (and) we had tons of good looks, and then lots of really good stuff in the O (offensive)-zone.”

The team wasn’t enthused  with their  second and the third periods.

“But obviously good for us to pop a couple goals when we were bleeding a little bit in the second period that led to a big win,” said Anholt.

The Canes Brayden Edwards opened the scoring when he got a stick on a Wojtech Port pass in the crease 11:19 into the first period.

Logan Wormald got the other assist on Edwards’ 30th goal of the year.

Edwards then beat Oil Kings goalie Ethan Simcoe with a wrist shot to the short side 14:14 into the opening frame.

Wormald and Jordan Gustafson collected the assists on Edwards second goal of the night.

Josh Nori got the Oil Kings on the board 5:04 into the second period from Simcoe and Blake Fiddler.

Edmonton tied the game 40 seconds later on a goal from Niko Tsakumis.

Miroslav Holinka and Lukas Sawchyn assisted on the marker.

Lethbridge responded with two goals of their own 38 seconds between 11:28 and 12:06 of the middle frame.

Kash Andresen finished off a nice 2-on-0 with Gustafson, and Noah Chadwick also got an assist on the goal.

Leo Braillard then scored back door off a Miguel Marques pass to give the Canes a 4-2 lead.

Brayden Yager also notched an assist on Braillard’s 26th goal of the year.

The Canes went 0-for-1 and Edmonton went 0-for-2 on the powerplay.

Edmonton outshot Lethbridge 25-20 in the game.

There were no placing implications for the Canes this weekend as they already clinched fourth place in the conference.

That was the Canes 25th home ice win of the year and the first time the team has done that since the 2016-2017 season.

The Canes close out the regular season on the road against the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight.
