Peak Elite Cheerleading saw one of its groups get crowned a world champion last weekend in Florida.
The U17 Level 1 Yetis team accomplished a monumental achievement when they won gold and earned the World Champions title at the Allstar Worlds Championships in Orlando.
“What’s great about travelling internationally into the States in cheerleading is the international score sheet is actually set to a higher standard,” explained Peak Elite Cheerleading head coach Samantha Paradee.
“We knew we had the advantage on our scoresheet with our routine going there. But we prepped for three weeks and changed our routine to meet all of their standards, (and) to make sure that we can maximize and capitalize on all the points that are being given.”
The Yetis scored a 95.6/100 to win the division.
“What shone for them was their ability to make smart decisions on the floor,” said Paradee.
“Being able to keep a stunt in the air or being able to throw that extra tumbling pass really counts. And in this situation they made really smart gameday decisions because there were two opportunities where they could’ve taken a fall or they could have taken a little bit of a deduction and they didn’t.”
The U17 Level 2’s Double Black squad had strong showing in their two routines, resulting in a fourth place finish in a 43-team division.
“Double Black typically has always done exceptionally well but hasn’t had as many podium finishes in our gym over the last three to four years,” said Paradee.
“So it was unreal to see them succeed and again make those same game day decisions that (the)Yetis made.”
