LSHOF inductee banquet fast approaching

Lethbridge sports fans will have the opportunity to hear stories of past and present athletes who have shaped Southern Alberta’s sports culture at the annual Lethbridge Sport Hall of Fame Inductee Banquet on May 9.

Some of this year’s inductees include Herman Linder, a rodeo icon who holds the Calgary Stampede Record of 22 gold buckles, Curtis Hatch, a former boxer who boxed 112 times professionally without ever getting knocked out, Apollo Hess who is the first member of the Kainai Nation to compete in the Olympics and  helping Canada earn a fifth place finish in the 4×100 metre relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics and Malcom Kano who was a founding member of KidSport which is helped 9,300 children play sports.

Toby Boulet, board chair of the Lethbridge Sport Hall of Fame, says it’s important to honour those who have helped make a difference in Lethbridge sports.

“When you are cheering in the VisitLethbridge.com Arena, at the Spitz baseball diamond or wherever, rugby field, soccer, it doesn’t matter where you’re cheering, baseball, badminton, there’s a story why that’s there.”

With the Hurricanes advancing deep into the playoffs, the Lethbridge Sport Hall of Fame inductee banquet will be held at the Lethbridge and District Agri-Food Hub’s Lakeview Salon instead of the VisitLethbridge.com Arena, which usually hosts the banquet, to not interfere with the playoffs.

Boulet says with the possibility of the founders of the Lethbridge Hurricanes being present for the banquet, as they are one of the inductees, he thinks it will make the perfect evening.

“It’s kind of cool to be in the Lakeview Salon and also at the same time its Hurricanes madness and that’s great the Hurricanes founders are coming to our banquet, we hope, and it’ll be cool.”
