The Lethbridge Hurricanes were swept in four games in the Eastern Conference final after losing Game 4 to the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-3 on Wednesday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
“It’s quiet,” said Canes head coach Bill Peters on the feeling in the dressing room after the loss.
“There’s been a lot of work put in, a lot of time invested and (I am) proud of our guys. It didn’t end the way we wanted but I was proud of the work they put in this year and the improvement they made.”
“It sucks whether you lose in four or seven,” said Canes Captain Noah Chadwick.
“It hasn’t quite fully settle out I don’t think yet but it really sucks.”
The Canes got the scoring started for the second straight game.
Logan Wormald took a pass from Brayden Edwards and drove to the net and slipped the puck passed Harrison Meneghin 2: 32 into the game to give Lethbridge a 1-0 lead.
Miguel Marques also got an assist on the goal.
Mathew Ward scored a highlight-reel shorthanded goal when he made a move between the legs by the defender and backhanded the puck passed Jackson Unger 9: 37 into the first to tie the game at one.
Bryce Pickford and Hunter St. Martin assisted on the goal.
Pickford then ripped a shot through a crowd into the net on the powerplay 14:10 into the first to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Gavin McKenna and Tanner Molendyk assisted on the marker.
Misha Volotovskii then gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead when he scored on a long rebound off the post 12:20 into the second period.
Molendyk and Ethan Neutans assisted on Volotovskii’s marker.
Ward then found some room on the short side on the powerplay with 2:08 left in the second period to give Medicine Hat a 4-1 lead.
Ryder Ritchie and St. Martin assisted on Ward’s second of the night.
Kash Andresen cut the Tigers lead to 4-2 1: 32 into the third as he one-timed in a shot from the low slot from Trae Johnson and Luke Cozens.
Anthony Wilson got the Canes to within a goal 6:17 into third from Caden Price.
McKenna sealed it with an empty netter with 37 seconds to go.
Final shots were 39-21 in favour of the Tigers.
