All of Lethbridge’s American Legion baseball teams were in action this past weekend in either tournament or conference action and found the success in getting the win column.
Miners
The Lethbridge Miners ‘A’ Legion team opened conference play with a split with the Medicine Hat Knights on Sunday.
The Miners lost the first game 6-4.
Brett Smith went 2-for-4 at the plate, while hitting in an RBI to lead the Miners in the loss.
Andy Puskar had two runs while Dylan Wojtowicz and Teal’c Widmer scored a run each for Lethbridge.
Max Roden took the loss on the hill for the Miners after allowing six runs, one hit, while walking five batters and striking out three batters.
The Miners rebounded with a 10-4 win in the second game.
Smith led the way for Lethbridge by going 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs, while Dylan Carpenter had two runs and Widmer, Grady Johnson, Brady Hope, Nate Conway-Mulder and Kodi Shymkiw each had a run for Lethbridge.
Asher Lybbert was the winning pitcher for the Miners after going three innings in relief of Taylor Chapple.
Lakers
The Lethbridge Lakers A team opened the Kalispell tournament by beating the Kalispell Lakers 14-9 on Friday, followed by a 9-1 win against the Calgary Blues and 6-6 tie with Calgary’s CBA Archers on Saturday before being rained out Sunday.
The Lakers play Miners this weekend in two doubleheaders in league play.
Elks
The Lethbridge Elks AA American Legion team participates in the Vauxhall tournament this weekend where they opened with a 3-2 win over the host Vauxhall Academy, followed by an 11-8 loss to the Sylvan Lake Gulls, a 2-1 win over ATHX and a 7-3 semi-final loss to Absolute Human Performance (AHP) Academy.
