After starting their Western Canadian Baseball League season 0-3, the Lethbridge Bulls reeled off two straight wins to close out a five-game road trip.
The Bulls came back to beat the Swift Current 57’s 3-2 on Wednesday night.
The 57’s got on the board first in Wednesday night’s game when Wilmer Henriquez hit a two-out home run off of Bulls pitcher Jason Berglund in the bottom of the first inning to give Swift Current a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls tied the game up in the second inning when Brennan McTavish hit a two-out single to bring in Adonis Bernal from third base.
In the bottom of the third inning the 57’s gained the lead back when Silas Hilton scored on an error by the Bulls shortstop.
McTavish would tie the game in the seventh inning after an error was committed by Swift Current’s shortstop and on a play that also saw Jalen Ryan reach second from first base.
JP Spinosa hit a two-out single in the top of the ninth to score Luke Wheatley to make the score 3-2 for the Bulls and give them their second straight road win.
McTavish led the Bulls charge at the plate as he had two hits during four plate appearances with a run scored and a run batted in.
Aidan Newton was the winning pitcher for the Bulls as he came on in relief of Berglund and pitched the seventh and eighth inning where he gave up two hits, while striking out three and walking one batter.
The Bulls got their first win of the WCBL season after blanking the Okotoks Dawgs 6-0 on Tuesday night.
It was the Bulls who got out to an early lead as they found themselves up 4-0 by the third inning.
Ryan got the scoring for the Bulls when he hit a double to left field to score McTavish and Drew Bufford to give Lethbridge a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Lee Matsuzaki scored from first base on a Carter Claerhout double in the third inning to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead.
Claerhout would later score on an error by the catcher to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead.
Fast forward to the fifth inning, when Bufford hit a two-out single to score Claerhout to make the score 5-0.
A Matsuzaki hit in the sixth cashed i Spinosa to pad the Bulls lead to 6-0.
Claerhout had three hits on four trips to the plate, as well as two runs and an RBI to lead the way for the Bulls.
Maxim Mrakovcic got the win for the Bulls after pitching five innings and allowing two hits and striking out three batters.
The Bulls play their home opener tonight against Energy City Cactus Rats, who’s former name was the Edmonton Prospects, at 7:05 p.m.
