Bulls split weekend series

The Lethbridge Bulls split their four-game road series with the Fort McMurray Giants after a win and loss over the weekend in Western Canadian Baseball League action.

The Bulls ended the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Giants on Sunday afternoon.

Darcy Berry got the Giants on the board first with a solo home run in the first inning off of Max Benton.

The Giants got out to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when Elijah Olaybel hit an RBI triple (run batted in) to score Liam Taft all the way from first base.

Lee Matsuzaki hit into a fielder’s choice to reach base in the seventh inning, which allowed Bernie Socarras to advance to third and score on the shortstop’s error on the same play to make the score 2-1.

Eli McKeen scored on a Olaybel double in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 3-1 Giants.

Benton took the loss the hill for the Bulls after pitching two innings and  allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out a batter.

Jack Kalisky had two hits to lead the way for the Bulls in the losing cause.

The Bulls took the third of game of the series by a 3-1 score on Saturday in extra innings.

Both teams scored a run each in the third inning before stretching the game to extras.

Jalen Ryan scored for the Bulls  from first base on  a two-out triple by Steve Andrachick.

The Giants scored in their half of the third when Zach Cavanaugh scored on a Olaybel double.

Matsuzaki scored on a throwing error in the 10th inning to give Lethbridge a 2-1 lead before  Andrachick scored on a pass ball to solidify the Bulls 3-1 win.

Corbin Talley got the win for the Bulls after pitching  last three innings, giving up no runs on three hits and striking out three batters.

Ryan had three hits in four at bats and a run for the Bulls.

The Bulls won the series opener 3-0 on Thursday before dropping the second game 5-0 on Friday.

The Bulls are 3-2 on this current six-game road trip and will look to wrap it up with a win in Brooks on Wednesday night.
