For the first time since 1993, Paradise Canyon Golf Resort will host the province’s best men’s amateur golfers during the 113th Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship, which begins today and runs through Friday.
“We’re really looking forward to getting back there,” said Taylor Tracey, Alberta Golf’s manager of competition, content and heritage.
“They’ve shown that they can host top two championships with them having the McKenzie Tour stop there a few years back, as well as the Canadian Men’s Amateur.”
The challenge will be the wind, as it could be a factor one day and the next not so much.
“I think as a whole just the weather is going to definitely impact players,” said Tracey.
“I think the golf course demands a lot out of the players and that’s why it’s hosting the Men’s amateur, and I think they need to have everything in their game or in their arsenal ready to go for the week.”
Players to watch out for include the likes of Brandon Markiw, who recently won the 2025 Glencoe Invitational in the amateur division in Calgary and is a past Alberta Open and Mid-Amateur champion.
“He’s coming in hot,” said Tracey.
Jesse Galvon will be another player to watch and has a Mid-Amateur championship under his belt.
“He’s always around the top (in) the events that he plays,” said Tracey.
Brett Jones will look to defend to his Men’s amateur title.
Tracey would love for local golfer Andy Graziano to be in the mix, as well as Ryan O’Donnell and Justin Nagy.
The 120 players will be playing today and tomorrow, and Friday’s final round will have 60 players plus ties in the field.
Tee times begin at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. today and tomorrow and Friday’s begin at 8 a.m.
The top 18 Albertans qualify for the Canadian Amateur, the top 3 Alberta golfers will then join Team Alberta at the Canadian Men’s Amateur, and the winner will earn a berth in the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.
Spectators are welcome and it is free admission.
