The Southern Alberta Summers Games (SASG)that hosted in Taber last week are now in the books and Team Lethbridge had an impressive showing at the four-day event.
Team Lethbridge brought home the most gold medals with 124 and the second most medals overall with 245, finishing just behind the MDÂ of Taber who had 252.
“A big part of it is that we are one of the biggest regions,” said Olivia Olivieri, SASG regional director for Team Lethbridge.
“So, it’s not always a big surprise that we come home (with) that many, but with that said it also represents the hard work that our athletes have put in.”
Badminton and the 3K, 5K and 10K runs raked in the most medals for Team Lethbridge.
With a lot of athletes being to able participate due to the SASG proximity to Lethbridge and seeing participants in new sports is what Olivieri credited to Team Lethbridge’s success.
“Over the top,” said Olivieri, on the team’s passion level.
“Everyone gave it their all in whatever sport they were in.”
Olivieri spoke about what she enjoyed most about the SASG.
“Seeing all the blue shirts around Taber that represented Team Lethbridge and seeing our representation and community come together,” said Olivieri.
Lethbridge County was third in the medal standings with 113 followed by County of Newell and MD of Willow Creek who rounded out the top five with 101 each.
Lethbridge had 330 athletes competing.
