Six Lethbridge Bulls will make their way up the highway for the Western Canadian Baseball League All-Star Game next weekend in Okotoks to represent the West Division All-Star team .

For pitchers, the Bulls will be sending local Levi Abbott, Medicine Hat product Brett Getz and Australian Maxim Mrakovcic.

Abbott leads all league pitchers with a 0.28 Earned Run Average (ERA).

Abbott has 40 strikeouts in 31 innings and has yet to lose in five starts.

Abbott’s collegiate baseball career will come to an end at the end of  this summer.

“I think it’s a good way to close (my career) out if that’s the future that’s in store for me,” said Abbott.

“I’ve never been, so I’m just looking forward to experiencing it.”

Abbott spoke about what he anticipates it will be like to be mingling with other pitchers from other teams in the league.

“It’ll be cool to get their perspective on other pitchers in the league and how they view our team,” said Abbott.

Mrakovcic, who hails from Australia, has worked in 32.1 innings, and has collected 28 strikeouts and a 3.34 ERA.

Getz is sporting a 1-1 record in 23.1 innings worked and had struck out 23 batters and has a 2.70 ERA.

For hitters, Lethbridge is sending local Brennan McTavish and Carter Claerhout. Jack Kalisky will suit up in the Home Run Derby.

McTavish has played in 32 games this season where he has driven in 28 runs and has a batting average of .282.

He talked about what it means to go with Abbott as the two hometown players.

“It’s pretty cool for the youth and the baseball because I think they know us pretty good here (with) doing all the camps,” said McTavish.

McTavish wants to simply take the whole experience in and wants to meet new players and friends at the game.

“It should be pretty cool seeing all the All-Stars, and seeing all the different arms, and all the different hitters and just meeting all the new guys,” said McTavish, on what he anticipates the atmosphere to be like.

Prior to Friday night’s against the Energy City Cactus Rats, Claerhout was batting .342 on the campaign with 41 hits in 120 plate appearances. The former Prairie Baseball Academy Dawg has hit seven home runs and drove in 27 runs.

“I came in trying to be a leader and I knew I had to be in the driver’s seat for the offence,” said Claerhout.

“I think I’ve been doing my job as best (as) I could, and I guess good enough to be an all-star.”

It meant a lot for Claerhout to get the all-star nod with it being the final year in the league for himself.

“(My) family was super proud when I told them and (it) meant a lot to tell my dad, which was really cool,” he said.

The most important part to Claerhout in the experience will be the mingling aspect with other players who he has competed against in the last four years.

The 2025 WCBL All-Star Game is on July 19 at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks.
