The Lethbridge Bulls stomped all over the Energy City Cactus Rats with a 9-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader at Spitz Stadium on Monday afternoon during Western Canadian Baseball League action.
A big reason for the Bulls success was the complete-game seven inning effort by pitcher Levi Abbott who allowed two hits, struck out 10 batters and walked a batter.
“He got ahead in counts today and pitched with great tempo,” said Ryan MacDonald, Bulls head coach.
“Every time he takes the mound, we are energized and feel we have a chance to win.”
MacDonald thought the batters were aggressive in the game.
“We were aggressive in hitters counts tonight and managed to cash in runners when we needed,” said MacDonald.
The scoring started in the fourth inning when the Bulls scored three runs.
Jack Kalisky scored on a single by Adonis Bernal, while Will Turner scored on a Dalen Blanchard ground out and JC Spinosa batted in Bernal with a single in the fourth inning.
Carter Claerhout scored on a sacrifice fly by Bernal in the fifth inning to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead.
Spinosa scored on a Claerhout sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to start what was a three-run inning for the Bulls.
Kalisky then hit a single to score Bernie Socarras and Brennan McTavish then scored on a Stevyn Andrachick sacrifice to give Lethbridge a 7-0 lead.
Kalisky scored Socarras with a single and McTavish scored on an Andrachick single in the seventh inning to round out the scoring.
Socarras and McTavish each had two hits, and two runs scored and Kalisky had three hits and a run scored.
Andrachick and Bernal had two runs batted in each.
The Bulls won the second game of the doubleheader 8-4.
The win comes after the Bulls lost to the Sylvan Lake Gulls 12-0 on Sunday.
Lethbridge hosts the Regina Red Sox on Wednesday and Thursday respectively at Spitz Stadium.
