The Lethbridge Bulls did not have a lack of run support in their doubleheader sweep against the Fort McMurray Giants  as they scored 27 runs in two games on Saturday evening at Spitz Stadium during Western Canadian Baseball League action.

“It’s very encouraging as we have some guys heating up at the right time heading into playoffs,” said Ryan MacDonald, Bulls head coach, on the offensive output.

“This past week we have had some of our best at bats of the year and like I said it’s all coming together at the right time.”

The Bulls blanked the Giants 14-0 in the first game where those 14 runs were scored on eight hits.

Stevyn Andrachick had three hits in four plate appearances while scoring two runs and driving in four runs.

Jack Kalisky was right behind Andrachick in the hitting statistics as he had two hits in three plate appearances, scored two runs and drove in two runs and Brennan McTavish scored three runs.

Sameul Herrera pitched a seven-inning complete game where he surrendered three runs, struck 12 batters and walked a batter.

The Bulls took the second game 13-6 and those runs came on 17 hits.

Bernie Socarras had four hits in five plate appearances, scored four runs and cashed in a run to lead the way for the Bulls.

McTavish had two runs and drove in four runs, Andrachick drove in three runs and Carter Claerhout drove in two runs.

Hayden Oglesby pitched five of the seven innings for Bulls where he allowed four runs on six hits, struck out six batters and walked one base runner.

Fort McMurray won the first game of the weekend 6-4 on Friday night.

Socarras had two runs, while McTavish and JC Spinosa each had a run for the Bulls.

Tyler Pauly took the loss for the Bulls as he pitched the seventh and eighth inning, where he gave up two runs on two hits, struck out two batters and walked two batters.

Giants starting Ashe Ammerlaan allowed four runs on five hits, struck out 15 batters and walked six batters.

The Bulls clinched a spot in the playoffs after the series win against the Giants.

“It’s always good to clinch and know you’re playing into the playoffs,” said MacDonald.

“Now comes the time of managing arms to ensure we have the right guys set up to throw.”

Lethbridge’s game in Okotoks on Sunday was postponed due to rain.

Lethbridge plays at Brooks tonight.
