It wasn’t the ending the Lethbridge Jr. Bulls 14U had hoped for, as they were defeated by Team Ontario’s Kingston Colts 12-4 in the Junior Canadian Little League Championship final on Tuesday night at Spitz Stadium.
“Unbelievable,” said Sean Adamson, Colts manager.
“The kids have been working and planning for a long time and it just is a great thing that’s happened today (Tuesday) for our team.”
Adamson spoke about what it was like playing the host team in the final.
“You couldn’t draw it up any better,” said Adamson.
“(A) shout out to their pitcher, he was unbelievable tonight and we just (were) happy to get it done.”
Kingston had a 6-4 lead going in the final inning and scored six more runs in that inning, including a grand slam, to solidify their victory and a berth in the Junior League World Series in Taylor Mich. from Aug. 3-10.
The Jr. Bulls battled back from a 5-1 deficit to make the score 5-4 at one point in the game and coach Will Sharpe spoke about the fight in the players.
“That was the story of our season, this team has no quit in them,” said Sharpe.
Sharpe thought his players put in a fantastic performance despite the loss.
“They (the players ) worked so hard all season long, and it was so awesome to see, and yeah we came up short, but we shouldn’t lose sight of everything that we did this year and accomplished together,” said Sharpe.
Quebec defeated Team Alberta 7-4 for third place.
