The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men’s soccer team will rely on their up-front skill and new players filling big roles to play a big part in their success in the upcoming ACAC season.
“We’ve got a lot of good dynamic players upfront that I think are gonna cause the other teams lots of problems,” said Michael Racz, Kodiaks head coach.
Racz thinks it’s key having the Whitecaps program in the city because of the technical direction they are providing players before coming over to the Kodiaks.
“The players coming in are coming with training habits and with a vocabulary that’s just helping us not start at square one,” said Racz.
Racz sees some of the new players playing a role right away.
“On the boys side, we’re a little younger, but some of the new boys coming in are gonna play a big role for us,” said Racz.
Jordan Morello has noticed how dedicated the team is during the preparation for the new season.
“Every day, it’s been 100 per cent from everyone,” said Morello.
“Everyone’s looking really fit, … everyone’s looking hungry to win this year.”
Morello wants to see the team stick together when adversity arises.
“Being able to push through issues as a team together, I think that’s gonna be a big thing and sticking together as one big group and a family throughout the season,” said Morello.
Another strength for the Kodiaks will be their mentality.
“There’s a lot of boys that are willing to fight and put the effort in to keep this team going,” said Morello.
The Kodiaks wrap up their exhibition season this weekend before opening up the regular season on Sept. 6 at home versus Old College.
The Kodiak men’s finished with a 5-3-2 record last season which was good enough for third place in the ACAC South Division and ousted in the first round of championships by Keyano.
