Diamond City’s Ella Tillsley was a part of a memorable experience at the Canada Summer Games last week in St. John’s, N.L.
Tillsley was not only a part of the first Team Alberta entry at the inaugural Women’s Baseball tournament in the CSGs, but she was the first pitcher as well at the event for her team.
“A little nerve-wracking but it was good,” said Tillsley.
Tillsley went out on the mound with the mentality of doing her best and not giving up with her effort.
“I thought I did pretty good for the most part,” said Tillsley.
Tillsley helped Alberta to a 16-6 win over B.C. in that game.
Tillsley thought Alberta’s defence was strong all tournament long and their hitting was good until the gold medal game before it slowed down and they lost to Ontario 8-5.
Tillsley spoke about what it was like to medal in the inaugural Canada Summer Games event.
“It shows that women’s baseball is improving and (is) gonna go somewhere eventually,” said Tillsley.
Tillsley enjoyed spending time in the dorms with teammates and meeting different teams and athletes.
Athletes had the opportunity to team clothing and pin trading.
“I got a bunch of pins, and I got a Team P.E.I hoodie,” said Tillsley.
Tillsley was the only player on the team from this area.
“I found it pretty cool how everyone lived up in Calgary and Edmonton area and then I’m just from Lethbridge,” said Tillsley.
Alberta had a 5-1 record at the Games.
