Canes top prospects enthused with rookie camp

Three of the four top signed Lethbridge Hurricane prospects from the 2024 WHL draft talked about their rookie camp experience from the last two days at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

Those players are forwards  Cohen Pentney and Tyden Lafournaise and defenceman Reid Soper, who were all a part of large the  2009-born group at  rookie camp.

“ We have one of the best 09 groups in the league,” said Pentney.

“They’re all great people and I’m really happy to be a part of such a big opportunity for Lethbridge.

Pentney’ wanted to highlight his playmaking abilities, show positivity and be uplifting to his fellow teammates.

“I wanna play good on the ice but I also want to be a  good person off the ice,” said Pentney.

It was important for Pentney to be a leader in rookie camp.

“I’ve been a part of a leadership group for a long time on many teams, so I got some experience, but it’s really cool to be someone they (fellow players) look up to,” said Pentney.

Soper saw strong competition at rookie camp.

“Everybody’s here wanting to fight for a spot to main camp,” said Soper.

“So, a lot of physicality (and) good puck movement.”

Soper was out to do the best he  possibly could and outplaying the competition.

Lafournaise thought the pace was good at rookie camp.

“You  got some really high-end and skilled players out here making great plays,” said Lafournaise.

“And the speed, it’s something you’ve never experienced before. Guys are moving, guys want the puck, guys are competing, and it’s been great.”

 Hurricanes main camp is today and tomorrow at VisitLethbridge.com Arena with a practice going from 2-3 p.m. and a game commencing from 6-8:30 p.m. each day.

Entrance to training camp is free of charge.
