The Lethbridge Hurricanes held their annual general meeting on Monday night and the club had plenty to be excited about in terms of numbers from last season.
A highlight on the business side was the Canes raking in $1,103,113 in profit last season.
“I like to refer to it almost as the perfect storm,” said Terry Huisman, Canes general manager of business operations.
“We started off the year well and we ended off the year well but we had a lot of help along the way. The store sales sold well, the 50/50 sold well, tickets sold well ,and then obviously we have the expansion money and the long playoff run.”
The Canes accumulated well over $666,000 in WHL expansion fees, had a ticket revenue conclusion of 137 % to budget, advertising finishing to budget at 120 per cent for revenues and an overall to budget total of 131 per cent.
The profits will allow for reserves to be built up and dollars to be invested into the club and community partnerships
“That money’s going to be well-used within the community and within the team,” said Huisman.
The Canes saw an increase in average attendance to 3,791 per game last season and season ticket renewal as of Sept. 16 has seen an uptick of 10 per cent.
Highlights on the hockey operations side from last season include making it to Eastern Conference final, then head coach Bill Peters was a Coach of the Year finalist and then Captain Noah Chadwick was up for Defenceman of the Year.
Enzo DiDomenicantonio and Cash Whitmore were the Canes first two signed draft picks ever out of the U.S. draft.
