The Lethbridge Hurricanes begin their first extended road trip of the season tonight where they will play three games in four nights and the club will look to bring a competitive game if they are have success this week.
“We learned this (past) week on how you have to play at all times compared to how you maybe want to play,” said Ryan Aasman, Hurricanes assistant coach.
“It’s not going to come easy, you have to do it all the time and the competitive spirit has to be there. When it’s not, it’s not good hockey, you get taken advantage of because the league is so competitive.”
The Hurricanes face the Regina Pats tonight and the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday who are two points back of them in the standings going into Wednesday and then in between face a Moose Jaw Warriors team on Friday, who are six points up on them for seventh in the Eastern Conference.
“We know that all three teams that we’re playing against are going to be hungry and are looking to push for more out (of) their group as well and I think we’re on the same wavelength there,” said Aasman.
The Hurricanes are going into the road trip on a high where they came back to defeat the Calgary Hitmen 7-6 in overtime on Friday and is something they can build off of.
“Games like Friday are your true team builders where the dressing room takes over, the leadership group gets the team to buy in and everybody gets on board,” said Aasman.
“There’s no better team bonding than that and I think that was really special to watch the guys do that. Super proud of the players and how they did that and now you can build off that with a little bit of road trip time.”
Forward Tyden Lafournaise is excited as a Manitoba player to be playing in front of friends and family along the trip.
“Obviously (heading) closer to home, which will be good, I (have) got a lot of family coming to those games, especially the one in Brandon,” said the Winnipeg product.
“It’s definitely a winnable road trip and we’re building off of two great games, so we’ll see how (the road games) go.”
