The University of Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s basketball team are off to a 2-4 start to their Canada West season and are looking for more consistency in their game as the 2025-2026 campaign continues.

“I think our biggest challenge right now is just consistency,” said Kenny Otieno, Horn men’s basketball head coach.

“It’s just about being a little bit more consistent with the details when it comes to our defence being physical and aggressive with teams.”

The Horns are two games below .500 going into this weekend and Otieno spoke about how the team can get over that mark before the Christmas break.

“ Just going into every game with a little bit more confidence,” said Otieno.

“We gotta realize that we can beat anybody or at least  be in close games against anybody if we just come with that right mindset and confidence.”

Despite the 2-4 start, Otieno has liked how the team has shown resiliency.

“I definitely have seen that out of the guys and I think that’s an improvement from our preseason in terms of just fighting through situations,” said Otieno.

The resilience has helped the team fight back from deficits and  either close the gap or gain the lead on their opponents.

“Guys are able to find that second gear (or) third gear and push the lead or be able to just  execute in pressure situations,” said Otieno.

Otieno thought of three players that have stepped up to start the season.

Fifth-year Kymani Pollard was the first on that came to mind.

“ He’s our leader in terms of obviously what he brings to the table with his scoring,” said Otieno.

Lou Dalil has made an impact early on this season with his front court play.

“He’s also just had a major impact with our front court which is what we really needed,” said Otieno.

“We needed a little bit more of a punch out of our front court because our back court was producing and now we just needed one or a couple of our front court guys to step up and he has.”

Otieno has seen Bryce Solis as a player who has been a bright spot.

“Bryce has been great the last couple weeks just taking on (a) bit more of a leadership role, ” said Otieno.

“He’s also been able to score and create opportunities for the rest of our guys too.”

“It’s been up and down,” said Pollard, on the start to the season.

“I feel we’re gonna take off pretty soon, we just gotta find our stride and just play the right way.”

The Horns host the University of Manitoba tonight at 8 p.m. and tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness.
