The Lethbridge Hurricanes were doubled up 6-3 by the Vancouver Giants in their sixth game of a seven-game road trip on Wednesday night at the Langley Events Centre.
The Giants came out hot as they found themselves up 3-0 in the first 5:49 of the game.
Marek Howell’s shot from the point found its way into the net 35 seconds into the game to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead.
Aaron Obobaifo and Ryan Lin assisted on Howell’s second goal of the year.
Blake Chorney jammed in his fifth of the year from Ethan Mittelsteadt and Jakob Oreskovic
1:27 into the first period to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.
Tyler Halaburta’s backhand beat Leif Oaten for his 12th goal of the season from Mittelsteadt and Brett Olson at 5:49 of the first period to give Vancouver a 3-0 lead.
Lethbridge’s Kai Anderson walked into the slot and wristed it passed Giants goalie Burke Hood for his fifth of the season from Grady Pichette and Hudson Kibblewhite with 3:36 to go in the first period and cut Vancouver’s lead to 3-1.
Kade Duell got the Canes to within a goal 9:48 into the second period when he found the back of the net for his fifth of the year from Enzo DiDomenicantonio and Nathan Maloney.
Cameron Schmidt scored on a back-door feed from Obobaifo off the rush over a minute later on the powerplay to give Vancouver a 4-2 lead.
Tyus Sparks had the other assist on Schmidt’s goal.
Halaburda one-timed in his second of the game off Schmidt pass on the powerplay nine seconds into the third period to give Vancouver a 5-2 lead.
Owen Berge tucked in a nice backhand goal 7:13 into the final frame from Kibblewhite and Kayden Longley.
Torretto Marrelli gave Vancouver a 6-3 lead when he skated down the left wing and scored on a wrist shot with 4:35 left in the game.
Howell and Luca Pura assisted on the Marrelli’s goal.
Vancouver outshot Lethbridge 43-26.
The Canes (8-16-0-1) finish their seven-game road trip against the Prince George Cougars (14-7-0-0) on Friday night at 8 p.m.
