Oil Kings pummel Hurricanes

The Edmonton Oil Kings pummelled the Lethbridge Hurricanes 7-1 on Tuesday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

The Oil Kings Lukas Sawchyn opened the scoring with 2:53 left in the first period.

Josh Lee and Gavin Hodnett assisted on Sawchyn’s 16th goal of the year.

Lee scored 10:56 into the second period from Sawchyn to give Edmonton a 2-0 lead.

The Oil Kings took a 3-0 lead when Parker Alcos scored his second goal of the season from Hodnett 13:54 into the second period.

Edmonton made the score 4-0 with 1:19 to go in the second on a goal by Kayden Stroeder and assisted by Alcos and Landon Hanson.

Stroeder made it 5-0 when he scored his second of the night 2:12 into the third period from Kanjyu Gojsic and Noa Ta’amu.

Carsen Adair got the Canes on the board 22 seconds later with his third goal of the season from Hudson Kibblewhite and Luke Cozens.

Andrew O’Neill netted a powerplay goal 8:51 into the third period to give Edmonton a 6-1 lead.

Miroslav Holinka scored his 21st goal of the season from Sawchyn 11:34 into the third period to give Edmonton a 7-1 lead.

Edmonton outshot Lethbridge 37-19 in the game.

The Oil Kings went 1-for-3 while the Canes went 0-for-2 on the powerplay.

The Hurricanes begin a home and home with the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena with puck drop at 7 p.m.

The two teams will then tangle in Swift Current on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
