Edmonton Oilers agree to terms on one-year contract with defenceman John Klingberg

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with defenceman John Klingberg on Friday.

Klingberg was a free agent and hasn’t played an NHL game since Nov. 11, 2023.

The six-foot-two, 185-pound defenceman has appeared in 633 career games over 11 seasons with Dallas, Anaheim. Minnesota and Toronto. He has registered 81 goals and 331 assists.

He has also appeared in 63 playoff games (eight goals, 31 assists) and helped Dallas reach the 2020 Stanley Cup final.

Klingberg signed a one-year, US$4.15 million deal with the Maple Leafs last season, recording five assists in 14 games before undergoing season-ending hip surgery.

The Stars selected Klingberg in the fifth round, No. 135 overall, in the 2010 NHL draft.
