BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Ben Stokes prised out Yashasvi Jaiswal for 87 for England’s only afternoon wicket as India reached 182-3 at tea on day one of the second test at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
The captain gave himself a second bowling spell and his seventh delivery induced Jaiswal to waft at a wide one and edge to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
Jaiswal and India captain Shubman Gill safely played a tough first post-lunch hour from Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse and then started hitting the change bowlers.
Jaiswal had moved from 62 at lunch to 87 when he tried cutting Stokes. He faced 107 balls and hit 13 boundaries in his 3 1/2-hour stay. Jaiswal needs 10 runs in the second innings to reach 2,000 in his 21st test.
At tea, Gill was 42 not out and Rishabh Pant 14 not out, including the only six so far, over midwicket off spinner Shoaib Bashir.
India scored 84 runs in 28 overs in the session.
