BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Play finally began on Day 5 of the second test between England and India on Sunday after a delay of one hour and 40 minutes because of wet weather.
England resumed on 72-3 and most likely was looking to bat for a draw, with India having set a world-record target of 608. The home team needs 536 more runs to win.
India had 80 overs to take England’s final seven wickets and claim a series-tying victory. England won the first test in Headingley last week.
Rain throughout the morning led to the ground staff rolling out the covers.
