QMJHL roundup: Hernandez nets shutout as Sagueneens blank Eagles 3-0

SYDNEY — Maxim Schafer and Alexandre Desmarais each scored in the second period, Mathias Hernandez made 24 saves, and the visiting Chicoutimi Sagueneens blanked the Cape Breton Eagles 3-0 in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action at Centre 200 on Friday.

Schafer scored 46 seconds into the second frame, while Desmarais made it 2-0 at 8:44. Emile Guite scored at 13:48 of the third to add extra insurance for the visitors.

The Sagueneens outshot the Eagles 28-24 and went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Eagles were 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

Eagles netminder Connor Towle stopped 25 of 28 shots.

The Sagueneens improved to 4-1-0-1, while the Eagles slipped to 1-2-1-2.

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Loic Poirier had two goals and two assists as the Sherbrooke Phoenix beat the visiting Gatineau Olympiques 6-2.

Brandon Delarosbil, Thomas Rousseau, Chad Bellemare and Sydney Gagnon also scored for the Phoenix (3-1-0-0), who were tied 1-1 after the first period but took a 3-1 lead into the third. Bellemare also chipped in with two assists.

Justin Boisselle and Ethan Cox scored for the Olympiques (3-3-0-0), who were outshot 40-20.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Jeremy Jarret had a goal and assist as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies beat the visiting Val-d’Or Foreurs 5-2.

Nathan Langlois, Benjamin Brunelle, Charles Laforest and Thomas Verdon also scored for the Huskies (3-1-2-0), who outshot the visitors 39-15.

Adam Cavallin and Maxime Coursol scored for the Foreurs (1-4-0-0), who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third.

QUEBEC CITY, Que. — Eliot Simard scored the lone goal of a three-round shootout to lift the Quebec Remparts to a 3-2 win over the visiting Rimouski Oceanic.

Nathan Quinn and Xavier Lebel scored power-play goals in regulation for the Remparts (3-3-0-0), while Cal Uens chipped in with two assists.

Evan Depatie and Emile Duquet scored for the Oceanic (3-1-0-1), who were outshot 34-22.

Oceanic netminder William Lacelle stopped 32 of 34 shots, while Benjamin Lelievre stopped 20 of 22 shots in the Remparts’ net.

VOLTIGEURS 5 CATARACTES 3

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Jesse Allecia had a goal and assist, Matteo Rotondi and Maxime Lafond each had two assists, and the Drummondville Voltigeurs beat the visiting Shawinigan Cataractes 5-3.

Hugo Dufour, Louis-Felix Bourque, Dylan Dumont and Xavier Cormier also scored for the Voltigeurs (3-1-0-1), who outshot the visitors 37-30.

Jiri Klima, Vince Elie and Chad Lygitsakos scored for the Cataractes (1-2-1-1), who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 5-2 heading into the third.

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Matt Gosselin had two goals and an assist, Justin Carbonneau had two goals, and Jakub Milota made 26 saves as the unbeaten Blainville-Boisbriand Armada whipped the visiting Charlottetown Islanders 8-0.

Xavier Villeneuve, Vincent Collard, Mateo Nobert and Rafael Cloutier also scored for the Armada (5-0-0-0), who outshot the visitors 35-26 and went 2-for-6 on the power play.

Theo Lemieux, Mael Lavigne, Vincent Desjardins, Nobert and Villeneuve all chipped in with two assists.

Vincent Gladu stopped 19 of 25 shots for the Islanders (5-1-0-1), and Donald Hickey stopped eight of 10 in relief.
