By Canadian Press on October 19, 2025.

TORONTO — Ben Flanagan, of Kitchener, Ont., captured the Canadian men’s marathon title in his debut at the distance, finishing 10th overall at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday in two hours 15 minutes 39 seconds.

Flanagan, a 2024 Olympian in the 5,000 metres and the Canadian record holder in the 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre road races, called the win “a new chapter” in his career.

Rachel Hannah, of Port Elgin, Ont., won the Canadian women’s crown in 2:33:47, her first national marathon victory.

Kenya’s Leonard Langat claimed the overall men’s race in 2:08:04, 24 seconds ahead of Noah Kipkemboi.

Ethiopia’s Shure Demise earned her third Toronto women’s title in 2:21:03, just shy of the course record (2:20:44) set last year by her compatriot Waganesh Mekasha.

Makenna Fitzgerald, of Kamloops, B.C., and Toronto’s Brittany Moran took Canadian silver and bronze behind Hannah.
