Canada’s Jacobs clinches playoff spot at Pan Continental Curling Championships

By Canadian Press on October 23, 2025.

VIRGINIA — Canada’s Brad Jacobs remained undefeated and clinched a semifinal berth at the Pan Continental Curling Championships with an 8-2 win over Australia’s Hugh Millikin on Thursday.

The win also sealed a berth for a Canadian team at the world men’s curling championship, March 27-April 4 in Ogden, Utah.

Jacobs’ Calgary-based team was in control early with deuces in the first and third ends to take a 4-1 lead. Jacobs then stole one in the fourth and three more in the fifth. The Australians conceded after taking a single point in the sixth.

Jacobs (5-0) will wrap up round-robin play on Friday with games against Japan’s Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi (4-1) and John Shuster of the United States (5-0).

In women’s action earlier Thursday, Canada’s Rachel Homan rallied from an early deficit to post an 11-9 win over South Korea’s Eunji Gim.

Gim scored four in the second end to take an early 4-1 lead over Homan, the defending tournament champion.

But Homan’s Ottawa rink responded quickly, outscoring Gim 6-1 over the next four ends and taking the lead with a steal of two in the sixth.

South Korea moved back in front 8-7 with three in the seventh, but Homan responded with three in the eighth and took a three-point cushion into the final end with a steal of one in the ninth.

The win improved Canada’s record to 3-1 while South Korea dropped to 1-3.

Homan faced China’s Rui Wang (4-0) later Thursday.
