‘Not a dream’: Grey Cup champions Saskatchewan Roughriders hold parade in Regina

REGINA — The Grey Cup champions Saskatchewan Roughriders paraded down the streets of Regina with cheering fans, bringing the CFL’s top prize all the way to the legislature.

The crowd, wearing their green and white attire, hooted and rang bells as the players took turns hoisting the cup on the premier’s balcony.

They led all in a chant of “Let’s go Riders!” while waving flags, drinking beers and smoking cigars in celebration of beating the Montreal Alouettes 25-17 Sunday in Winnipeg.

Head coach Corey Mace told the crowd that everyone involved with the football club contributed to the team’s success, and they will continue to push hard to win next year.

Quarterback Trevor Harris told fans he’s thankful for their support and the Riders will try for a repeat win.

The crowd chanted “One more year!” in a plea to get Harris to stay on for another season.

Harris later told reporters he’ll always remember the day.

He said he was presented with a painting of him holding the Grey Cup while confetti rained down.

“Seeing that painting brought tears to my eyes,” he said.

“I still feel like I’m dreaming. There are times (I’m) like, ‘Wait have I woke up yet?’ I kind of flick myself to make sure I do have pain receptors. This is not a dream.”

Inside the legislature, players sat around the cabinet table, banging on it and hollering. In the hallways, politicians of all stripes were eager to take photos with them and the cup.

Speaker Todd Goudy, who gave his tricorn hat to offensive lineman Logan Ferland, took the Saskatchewan native inside the chamber. Ferland sat in the Speaker’s chair while Goudy took his picture.

Earlier outside, Ferland drank beer straight from the cup with the hat on.

“Thank you for your hat, sir,” he told the crowd. “2025 Grey Cup champs, let’s go!”
