Glass helps Devils snap five-game skid with 4-3 win over Senators

By Canadian Press on December 9, 2025.

OTTAWA — The New Jersey Devils snapped a five-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Jakob Markstrom, who stopped 34 shots, made a number of saves in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Tied 3-3 midway through the third period, the Devils (17-12-1) regained the lead with just over seven minutes remaining. Arseny Gritsyuk fed Cody Glass for his fifth goal of the season. Glass beat Linus Ullmark with a wrist shot.

New Jersey took the lead four minutes into the second on a Jordan Spence giveaway allowing Paul Cotter to break in alone and tuck a backhand shot past Ullmark, who finished with 28 saves.

The Senators (13-12-4) took advantage of a Brenden Dillon giveaway allowing Dylan Cozens to feed Drake Batherson at the side of the crease for his second power-play goal of the game.

For two teams struggling to find the back of the net lately, the first period offered some much-needed offence, with the Senators and Devils combining for four goals.

Ottawa struck early — just 96 seconds in — when Batherson scooped up a rebound on the power play and lifted it over Markstrom to open the scoring. New Jersey responded a few minutes later, as Simon Nemec stepped into a shot from the high slot and beat Ullmark.

The Senators briefly thought they had regained the lead, but had a goal waved off for a kicking motion. They didn’t take long to respond. On another power play, Tim Stützle snapped home his first in eight games to put Ottawa back in front. But once again, the Devils had an answer. Connor Brown found Gritsyuk and he raised one past Ullmark to make it 2-2.
