Canadian Olympian Charline Labonté joins Vancouver Goldeneyes staff

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Goldeneyes have added a four-time gold medallist to their staff, hiring Charline Labonté as a player development consultant.

The goaltender from Boisbriand, Que., won Olympic gold with Canada in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014, and hoisted the CWHL’s Clarkson Cup with the Montreal Canadiennes in 2017.

She was named the Clarkson Cup MVP that season and earned the league’s goaltender of the year award for the third year in a row.

Labonté was the second female player to play Canadian major junior hockey, appearing in 26 games for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL in the 1999-00 campaign.

She has a teaching degree and a master’s degree in sport psychology from McGill University, and has been working as a goalie coach and sport psychology consultant since 2017.

Goldeneyes general manager Cara Gardner Morey says Labonté will help Vancouver’s players develop and navigate their professional careers.

“We’re so excited to have Charline join our team,” the GM said in a release. “She has tremendous experience as an elite player and Olympian and is one of the best to ever play our sport.”
