By Canadian Press on January 9, 2026.

ST LOUIS — Former Toronto FC scout Colin Rooney and former CF Montreal assistant coach David Sauvry have joined Yoann Damet’s staff at St. Louis City FC.

Rooney, a St. Louis native who also holds Croatian citizenship, has been appointed the Major League Soccer team’s director of scouting while Sauvry joins as an assistant coach.

Rooney spent 10 years with TFC as head of scouting for first Mexico and Central America and then Europe before leaving in October 2024 to join England’s Everton as international senior scout. He began his career scouting MLS and Liga MX for Turkey’s Galatasaray.

Sauvry worked as an assistant coach in Montreal under both Laurent Courtois and Marco Donadel. Most recently he was an assistant coach at Belgium’s FCV Dender EH in Belgium’s first division. Sauvry also served as an assistant under Damet at the Los Angeles Galaxy II during the 2022 USL Championship season.

A native of Brossard, Que., he began his coaching career with Quebec’s Celtix du Haut-Richelieu.

Canadian Corey Wray, named St. Louis’ sporting director in November, has ties with both Toronto FC and CF Montreal. The native of Mississauga, Ont., who succeeded Lutz Pfannenstiel, previously served as Montreal’s director of soccer and assistant GM with both TFC and the Columbus Crew.

Damet, named St. Louis head coach last month, started at the CF Montreal academy in 2014 before joining FC Cincinnati in 2017, serving as assistant coach and later interim head coach in 2019 and 2020.

The 35-year-old Frenchman has also served as an assistant coach to Wilfried Nancy in Columbus and Greg Vanney at the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Damet’s coaching staff also includes assistant coach Marcelo Sarvas and Baggio Hušidić, who will serve as a first team Individual player development coach. Alex Langer returns for a fourth season as first-team goalkeeper and set-piece coach.

St. Louis finished 13th in the Western Conference last season at 8-18-8.
