Canada’s Miha Fontaine wins bronze at World Cup aerials event in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Canadian freestyle skier Miha Fontaine took the bronze medal in men’s competition at a World Cup aerials event on Monday.

Fontaine, from Magog, Que., posted a score of 107.73 to earn his first career World Cup medal.

The 22-year-old just missed the podium last week in Lac-Beauport, Que., when he finished fourth on the second day of competition.

Chinese skiers took the gold and silver medals, with Li Xinpeng finishing with a strong score of 137.19, 25.19 points ahead of Wang Xindi.

Émile Nadeau of Prévost, Que., was fifth with 104.49 points.

In women’s competition, Kalia Kuhn of the United States won gold with a score of 105.6, followed by China’s Xu Mengtao (105.17) and Australia’s Danielle Scott (85.65).

Alexandra Montminy of Lac-Beauport was the top Canadian in seventh.
