CALGARY — Denmark’s bobsled and skeleton federation is urging other countries to look closer at Canada’s actions in an Olympic qualification dispute causing friction in the international sliding community.
Canada pulled four of its six athletes from a women’s skeleton race Sunday in Lake Placid, N.Y., which reduced the number of Olympic qualification points available to the women competing there.
Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton says athlete welfare was the reason for the withdrawals, but some countries and athletes aren’t buying it and believe Canada manipulated Olympic qualification.
U.S. slider Katie Uhlaender accused Canada of weakening the Lake Placid field to protect the rankings of its own athletes.
Denmark has sent an email letter asking other countries that were present in Lake Placid to come forward with what they saw and heard to refute Canada’s stated reasons for its actions.
The world governing body of the sport says its integrity unit will investigate.
