Sturmay scores seven in 10th end to avoid upset at Scotties Tournament of Hearts

MISSISSAUGA — Alberta’s Selena Sturmay scored seven in the 10th end to rocket past New Brunswick’s Melodie Forsythe 12-6 on Thursday morning in Draw 16 of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

New Brunswick led 6-5 heading into the final end, poised for an upset in Pool B, but Sturmay loaded the house for the lopsided win.

Manitoba’s Beth Peterson, Nova Scotia’s Christina Black and Sturmay had already clinched playoff berths.

Also in the morning draw, Peterson dispatched Nunavut’s Julia Weagle 10-4 in nine ends.

Alberta’s Kayla Skrlik beat Newfoundland and Labrador’s Mackenzie Mitchell 10-4 in eight ends.

Northern Ontario’s Krista Scharf topped Prince Edward Island’s Amanda Power 6-4.
